A disappearing Plogger!

I know, I know, I promised to write here at least every week and I just haven't been keeping up with that promise.

It's not that I was abducted by aliens (although that is almost the case after the weird UFOs I watched fly over my cottage one night this summer. They were red and looked like they were on fire! There were about 22 of them and they all flew in exactly the same path silently across the dark night sky. I'm not talking fireworks here. No doubt they were the real deal. Plogger phone home!).

I wasn't trampled by a pack of wild mustangs (although that is almost the case after an exciting vacation at a farm in NY State where I moved some GINORMOUS belgian draft horses from one field to another and almost became one with the earth. Literally.)

And I wasn't put on a reality t.v. show (although that is almost the case because my family is so funny and crazy and weird, we really should have one!)

No.

Nothing quite as exciting as any of that.

I actually just ended up with some writer's cramp after trying to keep up with this Plog and my brand spanking new BLOG that I created to share my stories about being a

LEGISLATIVE

PAGE

Or more appropriately, PEYge.

It's true. I was accepted into the Page Program! Exciting!!!!!!!

So you see, I just can't continue writing here, writing there, being awesome AND saving the world all at once. I had to give something up. It wasn't being awesome.

Don't get upset. Don't cry. It's okay. Everything will be fine. I promise. I just need a little time to focus on my other blog for a little while until I can come back and re-AWESOME-IZE this PLOG all over again!

Until then, you can at least get a little bit of my awesomeness by reading my blog, The Adventures of a Legislative PEYge right here:

Okay?

Okay.

See you there!

Happy Canada D'EH!

Let's all take a minute to celebrate the fact that we all live in such an AMAZZZZZING country!

Maybe pet a beaver, eat some poutine, play some road hockey, put on a toque, jump in some raked up maple leaves, listen to some good old Canadian music and be extra polite to celebrate!!!!!

HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!

Aren't you glad you were #MadeInCanada ?

Waiting, waiting, waiting!!!!

I don't consider myself to be a very patient person. I don't like waiting. I don't like surprises either, so when you have to wait for surprises... that's just about as intolerable as you can imagine!

Right now I'm waiting for a really big surprise! Whether or not I've been accepted into the Legislative Page Program.

The Page Program, just so you know, is a really amazing experience for kids in grade 7 and 8 who want to learn about the government and work in the Legislature at Queen's Park in Toronto. If you're accepted, you get to stay in Toronto for 2 weeks to 4 weeks and work at Queen's Park every day!

I wanted to apply for a few reasons. I have been hearing really interesting stories from my Boppa (that's my grandfather) about when he was the Reeve (like a mayor) of a town for about 13 years. He talked about all of the cool things he was able to do (and even how he was almost arrested at a protest once) because he was in politics.

I also am really passionate about making change. When my sister and I created the Share Your Hair Project, we learned about how to work with other people to get things done and make a real difference in the world around us.  I learned that one of the best ways of making change is by being a part of the government. Our government makes all sorts of rules and laws and changes all of the time! When I saw the video of our Member of Provincial Parliament, Steve Clark, standing up in the Legislature talking about the Share Your Hair Project and I saw the Pages in the background doing their jobs, I thought "hey! That's something I can do!"

Not long after our Share Your Hair Project, my sister and I started the Show We CAN Lend A Hand Project for Habitat for Humanity. We were invited by MPP Clark to submit an Order Paper Question to the Minister of Environment because we want changes made to the Ontario recycling program. We asked the Minister if Ontario would consider starting a deposit program like they have in British Columbia, Quebec and Alberta where people pay a small deposit on their pop cans and plastic bottles and are refunded their money when they recycle their cans and bottles. It's such a good incentive for recycling! Going through the Order Paper Question process really made me think that I'd like to learn more about politics and the provincial government.

So then came the HARD WORK! I had to write a 750 word essay about all of the things I'm involved with (like dance and swimming, school and volunteering, my projects) and why I want to be a Page and why I think I'd be a good one.

I FINALLY finished my essay and it was time to submit the application. With the help of my awesome French teacher, and with my principal's permission, I sent it in.

And now?

WAAAAAITING!!!!

I don't know how long it will be before I hear back if I'm accepted. I know not many kids are chosen, so I'm not sure what my chances are, but I'm hopeful!

I don't have any good luck rituals like wearing the same pair of socks (thank goodness, 'cause ewwww!!!) or sleeping with a spoon under my pillow ('cause owwww!!!!!) so I guess I'll just ask everyone else to do a good luck ritual for me!

And let's all keep our fingers crossed! :D

Awards!

Ok, hey everyone!

Today I had a fun day at school (school can be fun, you know!!!) :D

We did literally 2 different things all day: One was awards and the other was swimming!!!

The awards were awesome-possum, because I got some (naturally :p)! It was really exciting, and my mom and dad came.

I got 3 certificates: one for my Remembrance day poem that I submitted into a contest and came 2nd in; another for being on the French as a Second Language Improv team (FSL Improv); and the last for writing a poem that has been actually published! I can't believe it, can you? When I was little and I read a book by Gordan Korman (if you haven't read any of his books, I suggest you do so soon!), I read about him in the back of the book. It said he had published his first story at the age of 12. I told my mum that, and I said "When I'm 12, I'm gonna be a published author, too!" Guess what? That's true now :):):). A little less exciting, but exciting nonetheless, I made the Honour Roll, too! That means I get an average of 80%  or more! I'm smart :p!

When we went swimming after lunch, it was SO much fun! Me and my friend Liz (I mentioned her earlier) swam for hours!!

About my Plog: I've decided to try to write at least once a week, but more if there's something exciting going on. So everyone who's following my Plog (I hope there's a lot of you) will always be able to see something new in the life of me!

Have a great day and thanks for being part of my Plog!

Welcome To The Plog!!!!!

Helloooo people of the blogosphere!

Welcome to my Plog!

What's a Plog, you say? Let's start with what it's NOT. Well for one thing, it's NOT a wooden shoe. That's a CLOG, I'm sorry. It's NOT green, and it DOESN'T croak, that'd be a FROG, once again, you have it wrong. It's most definitely not a ZAUGG because I don't even know what that IS!

So what exactly IS a Plog, then??????????

A Plog is pretty much the epic-est thing there is: A blog written by Peyton (that's me!)! What else could it be?

Soooooo in my Plog, I shall write of things most extraordinary! Technically, anything, really. Mostly whatever is new in my fantastical life :D I hope you all find it a ton of fun!

Alright, I'm gonna dedicate this Plog to my sister "Snap-Crackle-Pop". For she is currently at the hospital (for what, the FIFTH time this year?) having yet ANOTHER x-ray. Why? Weeellll.... long story short, she tried to tackle me (always pick on the little one) in the LIVING ROOM! She's not exactly the brightest child there is, obviously! Naturally, we fell, hard, right into the coffee table. She may have a broken wrist (good lesson learned, DON'T mess with the little sister, for she is small but mighty!) Ok I probably should let you know why she wanted to tackle me in the first place. My not-so-big big sister has decided to join the school football team! Considering I'm not that big and she is SMALLER than me, I'm not quite sure that was the best idea she's ever had. Oh well, GO TAYLOR!

Enough about her, let's talk about me! You'll learn as you read my Plog that I am an energetic, happy, fun-loving, somewhat crazy girl who loves to write, swim, read, spend time with friends and... DANCE! I take ballet lessons, jazz lessons and contemporary lessons and when I'm not in dance class, I'm choreographing my own routines at home because it's fun!

My best friend's name is Elizabeth, but you can call her Liz. We've been BFFs since grade 5, so only for a couple years. We know literally EVERYTHING about each other!

As you read my Plog you'll learn more about me, my crazy family, Pancake and Toby (I'll leave you guessing!), my friends, and my love of shoes, clothes, but mostly all things SPARKLY!

Welcome to The Plog! Hope you enjoy it!
